I am a junior full-stack developer with experience in JavaScript, React, Node, Django and Python. Having recently graduated from General Assembly, I am looking for an opportunity to hone my development skills, while also incorporating some of the skills I have gained in my previous career, working in a students union within the community engagement department. I have wide experience in working with a team, often as a project manager working on training conferences, large scale event planning and volunteer management.
Working in a students union is something I fell into and was doing until I figured out what I wanted to do. Through my job there I had the opportunity to learn basic HTML so I could start editing some of the pages on our website and that sparked my interest to do some free online courses to expand my knowledge and before I knew it I’d found what I was always looking for. SE perfectly combines the problem solving element that I’m always looking for in a job and my spare time (as I am a huge fan of board games and puzzles) while also managing to remain creative and imaginative, something that has been lacking from my professional life so far.
I believe I have quite a unique background and POV being a queer immigrant with a background in the intersection of charity and higher education work. I am a very detail oriented individual who picks up new skills quickly and easily (something which I have proved during this course so far). I have a good understanding of how to work in a team equally and bring a friendly quality that brings people together working towards the same goal. I am looking for a position as Junior Software Engineer in an inclusive, supportive and friendly organization.
Everyone knows the way to win me over is with a good board game. I own over 30 different ones and at my old work I started a small board games lunch club. Some of my favourites include Sagrada, Mysterium and Settlers of Catan. I also quite enjoy winding down with a good puzzle. These are only a few of the board games I own.
When I'm not doing an activity at home or with my friends, I like to get involved with some queer activism. I was the Event Co-Chair for King's College London LGBTQ+ Staff Network where I would organise monthly educational events and socials to increase awareness on queer issues prominent in our community. Pictured you can see me marching in the 'Reclaim Pride' march in July 2021.
One of my favourite pastimes is collecting vintage records, something which I got from my parents. I have found myself on ebay bidding wars on more than one occasion and I have to say one of my most prized possessions is a first edition vinyl of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Here is a picture of all my current records.
All my friends will tell you, I cannot walk past a dog in the street without stopping to make a face at them or (if allowed) pet them. Growing up with dogs they are a huge source of joy for me and at the moment, while I can't get a dog of my own, I dog sit for my friends whenever they need me to. Here you can see Willow, a black labrador who I look after quite regularly.
Festival season is probably one of my favourite times of the year. From the second I get those Glastonbury tickets in October I count the days until I'm back on Worthy Farm. I've travelled all around the world from Barcelona for Primavera Sound to California for Coachella to attend some of the best festivals in the world. Here you can see me and some friends at Glastonbury.
Some of my friends may say it's a problem or an addiction, I think it just brightens up my flat. For the past few years I have been collecting all sorts of plants and they have become my babies. I'm always open to swap cuttings or give plant advice and here you can see some of my collection.
I consider myself quite the baker, something which my friends and colleagues often get to enjoy as I have found myself on many occasions making midnight cinnamon buns to take to the office the next day. In the picture you can see a babka I made during the first lockdown.
As a 90s child, Disney has always been a huge part of my life. As a kid, the animated classics always captivated me and now my passion for everything they do has expanded to their entire world as I am a huge Marvel and Star Wars fan. Pictured you can see me being a big kid at Disneyland Park California.
